Hotel Solo #8 - curatorial research project 'Fluid'
Each year Breda-based artist initiative Club Solo invites a foreign collective or initiative to bring their take on a program to their exhibition space. In april of 2023, however, the initiative chose to use this period of time for a curatorial research project that dealt with future of the initiative itself. Club Solo has hosted exhibitions, events and steadily produced numerous publications for over ten year. Now, the initiative has decided to end their distinct format of solo exhibitions to allow for a transition from within. A group of core members from Club Solo were asked to take up the torch. To find new ways of exhibiting, organizing and collaborating, this research group consisting of Jolijn Durinck, Dorrith van der Bijl, Ramon de Gier, Benjamin Schoones and Mike Anna, invited others to guide them in their prospection.
The entire month of April was used to open up this ongoing process to the public. A total of six artists were commissioned to make a visual contribution in the space: Hussel Zhu, Fenna Koot, collective the Nieuwkomers, Bo Stokkermans, Frederique Scholtes and Louwrien Wijers. Whilst these artists were working in the space, the research group conducted conversations with experts from the regional, national and international art discours. Among this experts were Floor Snels, Marjolein van der Ven, Esther van Rosmalen, Cécile Verwaaijen, Maziar Affrasiabi, Ad van Rosmalen and reinaart vanhoe. The overlapping activities, conversations, contributions, karaoke and cooking sessions were open to the public during three successive Saturdays.
